Disaster Preparedness

Because of this day and time and the varied lifestyles we live. The Boy Scout motto of "BE PREPARED" is even more relevant today. We believe a multi-tiered disaster/survival kit is necessary. In this belief, the following guide lines were developed and you can also check out the "Get Ready Now" document at www.ready.gov or the "Are You ready" document at www.fema.gov:

The first tier is your personal survival kit that is kept with you at all times. This should be your most needed and useful items in case of an emergency. It should be easy to carry and attach to your body, suitable for various sized components, durable, and water repellant.

Emergency Cash 12" x 12' Sheet Aluminum Foil
3" Zip Ties Sterile Bag w/ Zipper Seal
Wire Saw First Aid Kit Containing the Following Minimums:

 

Water Purification Tablets

The second tier of your survival kit should also be portable and able to sustain you for a longer period of time (up to three days). It should be easy to pack, suitable for various sized components, durable, and water repellant.
WATER - One gallon of water per person per day for 3 days
Three (3) gallons of water per person Water purifying tablets for three (3) gallons of water per person
FOOD - This should be at least a three -day supply of non-perishable food per person.  Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and require little or no water.
Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables High energy foods such as peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars, and trail mix
Canned juices, milk, soup Comfort/stress foods such as cookies, hard candy, instant coffee and tea bags
FIRST AID KIT & NON-PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS - You should have a first aid kit for each vehicle and one for your home disaster kit
Sterile adhesive bandages in assorted sizes Instant cold pack
2 - inch sterile gauze pads (8 - 12) Instant heat pack
3 - inch sterile gauze pads (8 - 12) Antiseptic towellettes
Hypoallergenic adhesive tape Aspirin or non-aspirin pain reliever
